Ruth Emaline Cotterman Stansbury

Ruth Emaline Cotterman Stansbury, 82, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 Hennis Care Centre in Dover. Ruth was born in New Philadelphia on October 28, 1920 to the late Charles and Lena Brown Cotterman and graduated from Green High School in 1938. She married Ray Stansbury on April 14, 1940 with whom she shared 59 years until his death November 9, 1999. Ruth loved to cook, garden, travel and spend time with her family. She and Ray traveled to all 50 states as well as several foreign countries. Ruth managed the delicatessen at Maurer’s Market for ten years.A special love of hers was 4-H. She co-founded the Merry Clover Leaves club and served as a 4-H club advisor for 40 years. Her baking skills and artistic creativity provided the wedding cakes for her children and for the weddings and birthdays of many family members and friends. She was also an active member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints, now known as the Community of Christ.In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Maxine (Dale) Cotterman Miller. She is survive by her three children, Rhonda (Frank) Leper of New Philadelphia; Dale and his companion Nina Yamaguchi of Los Gatos, CA; and Dirk (Carol) Stansbury of Shepherdstown, WV; a brother, Dewey Hostetler of Phoenix, AZ; and uncle, Robert (Lois) Brown of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Irene Stansbury of Ortanna, PA; seven grandchildren, Brent Stansbury of Yokohama, Japan; Shelley Stansbury of Richmond, VA; Shannon (Brendhan) Stansbury Dillon of Norfolk, VA; Shay (Scott) Leeper Young, Shellyn Leeper and Janna Leeper, all of New Philadelphia; Ty Stansbury of Shepherdstown, WV; and three great-grandchildren, Braden, Sydney and Laken Young of New Philadelphia.Visitation will be Thursday evening, June 12, 2003, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted on Friday at 1:30 PM. Elder Glenn R. Carlisle and Rev. Lonnie D. Fulp will officiate. Interment will be private.The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Tuscarawas County Room” in the Ohio 4-H Youth Center and be sent to Ohio Cooperative Extension, Tuscarawas County, 219 Stone Creek Rd., SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
