RUTH E. HAWK Â? Ruth Elnora Shackleford Hawk, 79, of the Otterbein-St. Mary’s Retirement Community in St. Mary’s, OH died there Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Ruth was born on January 28, 1924 in Ambridge, PA to the late Robert C. and Carrie Prysi Shackleford. She was a 1941 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. On January 17, 1942 she married Ivan F. Hawk, who died May 7, 2001. Ruth helped manage the family farm near Stone Creek. After relocating to Plymouth, OH she worked as a deputy registrar and realtor. The couple retired to Port Charlotte, FL where she enjoyed playing golf and traveling. Ruth was a member of the Plymouth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Jefferson Grange, Tuscarawas County Farm Bureau Council and for 25 years a 4-H leader for the Stone Creek Slick Chicks. She was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Celina. Ruth’s family includes daughter Sandra H. and husband Jack Cotter of Oxford, OH; son Daniel I. And wife Jacqueline Hawk of Sidney, OH; daughter Jane R. and husband Alan Smith of Celina; five grandchildren, Deborah and husband Douglas Ross of Oxford; Charles and wife Shelly Cotter of Plano, TX; Sara Cotter of Columbus; Benjamin Smith of Celina and Katelin Smith of Celina; four great-grandchildren, Danielle and Alex Ross of Oxford, Avery and Kyle Cotter of Plano, TX; two sisters, Bernice and husband Harold Walters of Wooster and Kathleen Patterson of Washington, MI; and brother-in-law, William Metzger of New Philadelphia. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Metzger. Calling hours will be Sunday, March 16, 2003 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. The funeral service will be Monday, March 17, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Stone Creek with Rev. Dr. William C. Haggis officiating. Burial, alongside her husband Ivan, will follow at Stone Creek Cemetery. Following the committal a reception will be given in the church basement.
