Ruth E. Cranston Saunders, age 96, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Saturday morning, July 17, 2004 at Country Club Retirement Campus in Dover.
Born in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania on July 3, 1908, she was the last surviving daughter of the late Robert Hamilton Cranston and Anne Maxwell Cranston.
Mrs. Saunders spent most of her adult life there as a schoolteacher for 32 years. She and her late husband relocated to New Philadelphia in 1978 following the great Beaverdale flood in 1977. She attended the First Church of God of New Philadelphia. On June 28, 1941, she married Glenn P. Saunders who, after 48 years of marriage, preceded her in death on December 30, 1989.
Survivors include nieces, Ruth E. and Rosemary Daley, Linda Bond, Eloise Gomola, Leith Thor, Betty Kumse, and several others, including great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, brothers George, James, Robert, Alex, and William Cranston and her sisters, Agnes Smith and Elsie Daley preceded Mrs. Saunders in death.
Friends are invited to call Monday afternoon July 19, 2004 from 4 until 6 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory of New Philadelphia. A graveside committal service will be held Tuesday July 18, 2004 at Noon in East Avenue Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband. Family and friends are invited to a reception in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service.
