Ruth E. Havey, 92, of Tuscarawas, passed away in Union Hospital at Dover on Saturday, February 8, 2014.
Born May 18, 1921 in Tuscarawas, she was the daughter of the late John and Emma (Veigel) Sindlinger.
After graduation from high school in 1939, she continued her formal education at both Actual Business and Saffor Business schools.
Professionally, Ruth served as a secretary at a variety of companies including Timken Roller Bearing Co., Joy Manufacturing, J. A. Conley Co., and Tuscarawas-Warwick High School.
Her faith was nurtured throughout her lifetime at St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas. There she served as a Sunday School teacher, secretary, and superintendent. Ruth also enjoyed singing in the church choir.
She was blessed as an artist and greatly enjoyed oil painting. Ruth also enjoyed learning the art of gourmet cooking at Buehlers.
On April 3, 1945, Ruth married her lifelong companion and friend, the late Charles Adrian Havey, Jr. He served in the United States Navy for 22 years; ultimately retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. While in World War II, Charles served on submarines. His fellow servicemen and women continued their friendships throughout their lifetime as members of the WWII Submarine Veterans. Ruth loved participating in the auxiliary and traveling with her husband.
She will be deeply missed by her children including her daughter, Karen Havey of Tuscarawas and her son The Rev. Michael (Deb) Havey of Carlisle, Ohio; her grandchildren, Christina (Charlie) Crutcher and Gregg Havey; her great-grandchildren, Christopher Hollon and Alyssa Kirby; and her brother John Sindlinger, Jr., of Newcomerstown.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Martha, Mary, and Verna Sindlinger.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. The Rev. A. Wallace Anderson will officiate a service on Wednesday in St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas beginning at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
