Ruth C. Fleming, 97, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday evening, November 26, 2003 at Union Hospital with her loving family at her bedside.Ruth was born in Chicago on August 3, 1906, a daughter of the late Ernest C. and Elizabeth Karlson Hartman. On November 22, 1934, she married William R. Fleming. The couple had three children, and their families, who will miss her dearly: a daughter, Susan (John) Davis of New Philadelphia; two sons, William R. (Vickie) Fleming, Jr. of Medina and Robert E. (Debby) Fleming of Columbus; grandchildren, Michael Davis of Knoxville, TN, Amy Davis of New Philadelphia and Elizabeth Fleming of San Francisco. Ruth’s husband Bill died January 8, 1994 and Ruth’s sister, Margaret Hartman and a brother, Robert Hartman also preceded her in death.A loving and devoted family woman, Ruth was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and its Womens Circle. She also found time to help Bill with their business, Fleming Office Equipment, from 1947 to 1971. Along with Bill, Ruth also volunteered her time and talents to helping the Salvation Army, where Bill was a life-member of the board. The couple also assisted with various local and statewide Lion’s Club activities. Ruth was a member of the New Philadelphia Chapter No. 222, Order of the Eastern Star as well as the White Shrine and the New Philadelphia Garden Club. Most of all, Ruth enjoyed taking care of her family and will be remembered for her excellent culinary skills, for which she was twice mentioned in the Times-Reporter, and her love of playing bridge. Ruth will be remembered also for being a thoughtful friend and neighbor.Visitation will be Sunday, November 30, 2003 from 2:00 to 5:00 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia with Emmanuel Lutheran Church Council services at 1:45 PM. The funeral will be Monday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home’s chapel with Pastor Michael Walters and Rev. Stuart Barr officiating. Burial alongside her husband Bill will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the graveside committal, a reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
