Ruth A. Stonebrook, 99, of New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover, died Sunday, November 11, 2012.
A daughter of the late Otto C. and Minnie A. (Luneack) Bauer, Ruth was born on February 3, 1913 at Arlington, Ohio.
Ruth was a graduate of Wittenberg University and served as a school teacher at Washington Elementary at Findlay, Ohio where she taught third and fourth grade.
She was an extremely dedicated and respected member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia. She was a former organist and pianist for the church and Ruth served as the first female elder of the church.
Her hobbies included reading, knitting and gardening and she was a member of the Wittenberg University Alumni, the New Philadelphia College Club and various bridge clubs and civic clubs.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband, James Stewart who passed away during World War II and her second husband, Howard H. Stonebrook who passed away on March 16, 1968.
Calling hours will be Friday, November 16, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Jeffrey Gerber officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
