Russell T. Erwin, Sr., age 52, of New Philadelphia, died suddenly on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Union Hospital in Dover.Born on October 10, 1951 in Dover, Russell was the son of Hazel L. (Huff) Erwin and the late Charles “Chick” Erwin.Russell was the owner and operator for Erwin Backhoe Service for 25 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the former Midvale V.F.W. the New Philadelphia Eagles and the New Philadelphia Moose. He also loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.In addition to his mother, Russell is survived by his loving wife, Cora (Cook) Erwin, whom he married on May 19, 1978. Also surviving are children, Julie Prettyman of Uhrichsville, Russell T. Erwin and his wife Kerry of New Philadelphia, DeNece Richardson of Gnadenhutten, Johnnie Barron of Port Washington and Vanessa Meuhlen of Bolivar. Grandchildren, Russy T. Erwin, III, Katie Richardson, Raquel Prettyman, Cheyenne Wallick, Jonathan Prettyman, Hannah Prettyman, Meah Prettyman, Mitchell Barron and Brittney Pappas. Sisters, Pam (Fred) Warfield of New Philadelphia and Patty (Steve) Charles of New Philadelphia and one brother, Jon (Charla) Erwin of Gnadenhutten.In addition to his father, Russell was preceded in death by one son, Dale Meuhlen and one brother, Charles “Chick” Erwin.A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 10:30AM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Shedlock officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery. Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 from 5:00 to 8:00PMMemorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.
