Russell Larry Pope, 70, of Strasburg, died Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a period of declining health.
Born at Dover, Ohio on July 9, 1947, Larry, as he was known to family and friends, was a son of the late William R. and Eva M. (Gehring) Pope.
He was a graduate of Garaway High School and longtime member of Barrs Mills Church of God at Sugarcreek. Professionally, Larry was a sandblaster and painter for many years.
In his younger years, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. He later found joy in woodworking, caring for the birds and squirrels around his home and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Bridget M. Pope of New Philadelphia and Aricka (Ryan) Gates of Massillon; two brothers, Danny (Ida) Pope of Dundee and James (Linda) Pope of Navarre; a sister, Barbara Gish of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Ann Pope Gillinwater of Renick, West Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta Berry Pope and two brothers, Gene Pope and Fred Pope.
The family will greet guests on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 3-5 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will begin on Sunday at 5 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Private burial will take place on a later date in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
