Russell L. Moore Sr. age 68, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully early Saturday afternoon, June 6, 2009, in Mercy Medical Center at Canton. Born at New Philadelphia, April 5, 1941, he was a son of the late John and Anna Abel Moore. Best known as Russ to his family and friends, he attended Midvale High School. A life resident of the Tuscarawas Valley, he worked in the concrete industry for nearly 45 years before retiring in 2005. Initially, he was affiliated with the former Eckelberry Construction and Gundy Construction companies. In 1983, he opened Russ Moore & Sons Concrete, a company that remains in the family, operated by his sons Rusty and Rocky. Active in the community, Russ was always on the lookout for the less fortunate by heavily supporting the Rainbow Connection Telethon. For decades Russ and his family purchased a numbered plate for the First Town Days Festival. When not busy at work, Russ loved to spend time with his family, especially at their camping site at Springwood Camp Ground. Russ was also an avid NASCAR fan, and his favorite driver; Jeff Gordon. In 2001, he was recognized for having one of the nation’s best NASCAR memorabilia collections. Russ leaves behind many family and friends who will mourn his passing. He’ll be especially missed by the love of his life, his best friend of forty years, his wife; the former Maxine “Mickey” Morrison, who resides at New Philadelphia. His family also includes a son; Russell “Rusty” (wife, Helen) Moore Jr. of New Philadelphia, a daughter; Jenny (Bruce) Hart, of Baytown, Texas, and sons; Rocky (wife, Kelli) Moore of New Philadelphia, Jim (fiancée, Michele Ivory) Moore of Dover, Dug (wife, Melissa) Moore, also of Dover, John “Bruiser” (fiancée, Nicole McCardle) of Canton, a daughter; Cindy (companion, Gary Grant) Leonhardt of Dover, and a son; Rick (wife, Jeannine) Gooch of Dover. Twenty-one grandchildren; Tiffany (and her fiance Michael), Mandy, Jamie, Lil Rock, Nicole, Brittany, Kory, Kyle, Samantha, Lil Nikki, Brian, Maddy, Ashley, Lane, Bella, Melissa, Lacee, Landon, Logan, Lucas, Gabriella, and an additional grandson due to arrive later in the summer. Five great-grandchildren; Cody, Gracee, Mya, Alex and Keilynn as well as a great-grandchild also expected later in the year. Sisters, Mary Postel, of New Philadelphia, Betty Burlison of Nebraska, and brothers; John Moore of Wisconsin, and Jim (wife Peggy) Moore, of New Philadlephia, his mother-in-law; Mary Lou Elliott of Dover, and sister-in-law, Jean Sharkey of New Philadelphia, as well as a special nephew; Tracy (fiancée Monica) McClain of Snow Shoe, West Virginia, and beloved pet poodle Gordy and two cats; Kitty and Baby, complete the Moore family. In addition to his parents, Russ is preceded in death by a brother; Robert Moore, and a grandson; Cody. Friends are invited to call Tuesday, from 2-4 and from 6-8 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Matt Roe will lead a funeral celebrating Mr. Moore’s life Wednesday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Following the service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the fellowship hall at the First Church of God on Tuscarawas Avenue.
