Russell J. Edie

Russell J. Edie, 93, of Park Village Health Care Center, in Dover, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at Park Village.Born October 11, 1909, he was the son of the late James and Minda (Coutts) Edie. Russell attended New Philadelphia High School. He retired as a steelworker from Republic Steel in 1975 following 37 years of service. Russell was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, and he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.Surviving are two sons, Spencer (Carol) Edie of New Philadelphia and Bradenton, Florida and Jeffery (Alice) Edie of Largo, Florida; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Lightell and Jane Hency both of New Dawn Assisted Living, and Arlene Covey of Texas.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary J. Edie, whom he married January 11, 1934; one sister and three brothers. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2003, from 12 Noon to 1 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Funeral services will follow on at 1 PM with Rev. Jonathan McCleery officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church Avenue S.E.
