Russell Tschudy, age 95 passed away Monday, March 10, at Park Village Care Center after a period of declining health.
A lifelong New Philadelphia resident, Russell was born November 23, 1918 to Harvey and Lily (Haupert) Tschudy. He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1936, where he was a drummer in the marching band, and from Bliss Business School in Columbus.
Russell was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge BPOE #510. After 30 years of service, he retired from Reliable Auto Parts where he was treasurer/office manager. He served as interim treasurer for the city of New Philadelphia in 1975 and was a member of the New Philadelphia Exchange Club and the Quaker Investment Group. Russell enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards and the Cleveland Indians. In later years, he became an avid bingo player and Lottery ticket scratcher.
He is survived by his daughter Lynne of Canton, son Steve of Los Angeles, special niece and nephew, John and Joyce (Glazier) Frank and grand dog, Molly.
In addition to his parents and an infant brother, Russell was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia (Nicola) Tschudy, January 5, 1975 and his second wife Mildred (Glazier) Tschudy, March 12, 2005.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with the Rev. Steve Patrick officiating. The family will receive guest one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. A time of fellowship will follow the service at the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Russell has been cremated through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. A private inurnment will take place in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
