Russell E. Fowler

Russell E. Fowler, age 54, of Dover and formerly of Ashland, Ohio died Monday, November 12, 2012 in Union Hospital at Dover.

A son of the late Douglas and Jean (Pelton) Fowler, Russell was born at Ashland Ohio on February 14, 1958.

He was a graduate of Ashland High School and on September 18, 1989, he married the former Karen S. Canfield.

For a number of years, prior to relocating to Dover, Russell was employed by Dudley Auto Repair at Ashland where he was a tow truck driver and mechanic. Upon moving to the Tuscarawas Valley, Russell became a familiar face at the former Alpine Hills of Sugarcreek where he worked as a grounds keeper. He continued in that field as he moved on to work for North Star Community of Dover; and from 1997 – 2007, Russell was employed by the Strasburg Laundromat.

He enjoyed attending truck and tractor pulls as well as attending demolition derby events. Above all he looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and attending their events, especially soccer matches.

In addition to his wife of 23 years, Russell is survived by four children, Kristi (James) Ohler of Uhrichsville, Pam (Don) Grimwood of Dover, Steven (Samantha) McCue and Cory Rankin all of New Philadelphia; two brothers, Robert (Diane) Fowler of Texas and Douglas F. Fowler, Jr. of Dover and a sister, Latricia (Dave) Weinhardt of Sherrodsville.

Completing the family are eight grandchildren, one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by two sisters, Gretchen Sheaffer and Rebecca White.

The family will greet guests one hour prior to services on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Tim McCollum will lead a service celebrating Russell’s life at 3:00 PM. In keeping with Russell’s wishes cremation will take place following services.
