Russell Charles Coulter

Russell Charles Coulter, 81, of New Philadelphia, died Friday morning, April 13, 2007Born August 15, 1925 in Clay, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Hendricks and Martha (Legg) Coulter. After completing his formal education, he went on to honorably serve our country in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. He participated in the Invasion of Normandy and in both the European and Pacific Theaters. While in service, Russell married his wife, the former Donnas Moss.His professional career as a machine operator at Timken Rollerbearing in New Philadelphia continued for 30 years. From there, he founded Coulter’s Dog and Hunting Supply in New Philadelphia. Today, the business remains family owned and operated.Russell was a devoted and attentive husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his lifetime, he gave much of his time to Donnas. Together, they traveled both internationally and nationally and spent many winters in Florida. He never missed an opportunity to spend quality time with his grandchildren, either. Many cherished memories were made in the woods and on the lakes. Russell loved hunting, especially racoons and was an avid fisherman, also. When he was not out enjoying nature, Russell was cheering on the Cleveland Indians, and other sporting teams.Together with his wife, he raised his children including, Carol (fiancé, Mike Stephens) Bartles and Linda (companion, Don Davis) Coulter, both of New Philadelphia, Martha Hopkins (Roger “Lee”) Paulun of Newcomerstown, Larry (Dianne) Coulter of Dover and Jerry (Cynthia) Coulter of Cedar Falls, Iowa; grandchildren, Holly (Tim) Cline, Gretchen (David) Grosse, Rachelle (Ken) Sensel, Hillarie (Adam) Shapaka, Vikki (David) Cannon, David Bartles, and Travis Coulter; and his great-grandchildren, Nate, Brandon, Joshua, Ayden, Carter, Erin, Allison, Alisha, Meara, Sarah and Kera.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Johnson and Lucille Stockwell, and his brothers, Earl, Howard, Carl, and Francis Coulter.Memorial visitation will be held at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia on Sunday, April 15, 20007 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Russell’s life will be held Monday at the Midvale United Methodist Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David K. Powell and Pastor Brian Flood officiating. A meal will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. The family requests memorial contributions be directed to either Midvale United Methodist Church, 4383 E State, Midvale, OH 44653 or to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St. Dover, OH 44622.
