Russell A. Kohler

Russell Albert Kohler, age 74, of New Philadelphia, died suddenly Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following an apparent heart attack.

A son of the late Russell W. Kohler and Hester and John Graham, Russell was born in the Wainwright home of his paternal grandparents on May 28, 1937.

He attended New Philadelphia High School and began working at Republic Steel at Massillon in 1959 and remained with the firm for more than 30 years.

He enjoyed bowling at Boulevard Lanes where for a number of years he played on the McInturf Realty sponsored league. Russell was diligent about keeping his yard in perfect order and seemed to always have a remodeling project in the works inside his home.

Most of all, Russell enjoyed being around his friends and family; especially during holidays and special events. Also, he loved caring for his dog, Babe and his cat, Snowball.

He leaves behind a daughter, Doris (Tom) Grezlik of New Philadelphia; two sons, Chuck Kohler of Dover and John Kohler of Uhrichsville; two grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) Grezlik and Karmann Grezlik all of New Philadelphia; and his former wives, Barbara Kohler also of New Philadelphia and Jan Heavilin of Uhrichsville.

In addition to his father, mother and step-father, Russell was preceded in death by an infant sister, Doris Jean Kohler.

The family will greet guests on Friday, May 11, 2012 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A graveside service will led by Rev. Hugh B. Berry will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions in Russell’s name may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
