Rudolph “Rudy” Bertka, 89, of Sherrodsville, died Friday, August 09, 2002, at Aultman Hospital in Canton.Born June 13, 1913, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late John and Susan Kish Bertka. Rudy was a graduate of Ft. Wayne College, Indiana, and served honorably in the US Army, during WWII. He worked as a photo engraver and a mapmaker for Akron and Zinc Photo Engravers. He then retired following many years of service.Rudy was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Jewett where he served as organist and choir director for many years. He was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW Post # 1445 and the New Philadelphia American Legion Post # 139. He also enjoyed fixing numerous items and traveling. Surviving is a daughter, Dolores (Devern C.) Stone of New Philadelphia and a grandson, Michael D. Corona of Sherrodsville.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores A. Ondo Bertka, who died June 11, 1986; three sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 12, 2002, at 11 AM, at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. Burial will follow at Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens, in Sherrodsville, where military honors will be conducted by New Philadelphia VFW Post # 1445.
