Ruby Mae Hopwood, age 90, of Lakeland, Florida died Thursday, January 9, 2025, in Park Village Dover following a brief period of declining health.
Born on March 24, 1934, in El Paso, Texas, Ruby was a daughter of the late Delbert Vern and Pearl Lucille Keffer Henderson.
Ruby held a Master’s Degree in Education and spent 36 years as a teacher with the Austintown Public Schools. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, The Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, and was a Past-President of the Ohio Chapter of the International Reading Association. Ruby was a talented seamstress who spent many years making dresses for children in Haiti. Her summer months were spent at the Springwood Lake Camp Club in East Sparta. Ruby was also an avid animal lover who especially enjoyed caring for her cats, often rescuing strays, and keeping the wildlife around her home well fed. In addition to her numerous other interests, Ruby had a great passion for traveling and genealogy.
She is survived by her children, Art (Kim) Hopwood, Jr. of Bolivar, Sharon (Ron) Reynolds of New Philadelphia, and Sandra Hopwood of Fairview Park, Ohio; her grandchildren, Arthur (Jamie) Hopwood, III, Andrew (Carly) Hopwood, Peter Hopwood, Sarah (Jason) Ascher, and Michelle Brandon; her great-grandchildren, Arthur Hopwood, IV, Silas and Holden Hopwood, and Kyle Brandon; her sister, Shirley (Ted) Forber and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. Hopwood and two brothers, Phillip Henderson and David Henderson.
In keeping with Ruby’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Burial will take place during a private family service in the Poland Riverside Cemetery in Poland, Ohio. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia is handling arrangements.
