Roy Dwight Gordon

Roy D. Gordon, of New Philadelphia, died June 3, 2005, at Union Hospital in Dover.Roy was a lifelong resident of Tuscarawas County. He was born on June 8, 1927, to the late Edward and Cora Shonk Gordon. After completing 11th grade at Dover High School, Roy was called to honorably serve his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. After his service, he went to work at The Times Reporter and retired from there as a typesetter after 46 years. He assisted at Gordon Printing in Strasburg in his retirement. More recently, he also enjoyed wintering in Clearwater, Florida.Roy was a member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge, the Holmesville American Legion, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia. He will be greatly missed by his wife, the former Lois Faye Lemasters, whom he married on February 5, 1953. He is also survived by children, Gary (Marge) Jentes of New Philadelphia, Sherry (Don) Dogwiler of Zanesville, and Diane (Jim) Schilling of Strasburg; grandchildren, Jeff Jentes of New Philadelphia, Dr. Toby (Katie) Dogwiler of Dakota, Minnesota, Stephen (Kim) Schilling of Dover, Laurel Borrero of Pickerington, Julie Schilling of Strasburg, and Lisa Schilling of Dover; great-grandchildren, Nathan Jentes, Hailey Jentes, Nelson Borrero, Steven Pace, Kylie Pace-Schilling, Michael Pace-Schilling, and Cora Schilling; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dolores and Larry Loomis of Massillon; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Bond Gordon, who passed away in 1952. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Smiley D. Gordon and Ralph E. Gordon, both of Dover, and three sisters, Althea Gordon Dotts of Midvale, Harriet Gordon Murphy of New Philadelphia, and Zelma Gordon Rohly Horner of Dayton. In keeping with Roy’s wishes, cremation will be conducted and a memorial service for family and friends will be held at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia on Monday, June 6, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Following the memorial service a reception will be held at the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia. A private burial service will be held at a later date in Holmesville Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Roy’s memory to the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge #510, 1180 Union Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
