Roy D. Beans, 84, of New Philadelphia passed away in Union Hospital at Dover on May 31, 2013.
Born in Dover on November 17, 1928, he was the son of the late George H. and Martha (Albaugh) Beans.
After graduation from Midvale High School, Roy joined the United States Army and honorably served his country, including 18 months in the Korean War.
Roy worked for 36 years at G.T.E., where he retired as a supervisor in 1988. In retirement, he greatly enjoyed raising cattle, which he had done for more than 40 years.
In addition to the B.P.O.E. #510, he was a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 and the New Philadelphia Chapter #222 Order of Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge, where he was both Past Master and Past Patron of the Eastern Star, serving in those positions in 1967.
On June 18, 1951, Roy married the former Mary Ellen Hudson who survives. His family also includes children, Terry L (Carene) Beans, William (Vicki) Beans, and Brian (Charleen) Beans; his grandchildren, Nicole Beans, Marci (Chad) Karenbaurer, Kim (fiancé, Pat Cox) Beans, Lauralee Beans, Patricia Beans, Brian Beans, Jr., and six great-grandchildren, Makiah, Gavin, Meadow, Melody, Callan, and Gable; two step-grandchildren, Peyton and Crystal; his sisters, Evelyn Bichsel and Flora Jackson; and two brothers, John and Robert Beans.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2013 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Hugh B. Berry will officiate a service celebrating Roy’s life at 6 p.m. Following the service, military honors will be rendered by the New Philadelphia V.F.W. at the funeral home’s flag pole.
Cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory following the service.
