Rosetta Winona Wherley

Rosetta Winona Wherley, age 102, of Stone Creek, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, September 13, 2012, in New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover.

Born at Lancaster, New York, April 5, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Dr. George and Rosetta (Close) Jack.

A 1931 graduate of Oberlin College, Winona, as she was known to family and friends, was united in marriage to Dr. Harold F. Wherley on June 17 of the same year. In 1942, the couple relocated to Stone Creek. The couple shared 67 years of marriage prior to Harold’s passing in 1999.

She was a longtime member of the Grace Community Church, and its predecessor congregations, where for many years she was an active Sunday School Teacher. As her children grew, Winona enjoyed being involved in many of the activities at the former Stone Creek School and also served as a swimming instructor to the children of Stone Creek for a number of years. In her free time, she enjoyed being with the members of the Stone Creek Bridge Club, and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include her daughters and sons; Susan ( Dr. Glenn) Hisrich of Washington, PA, Dr. Benjamin (Suzanne) Wherley of New Philadelphia, Dr. Daniel (Caroline) Wherley of Dover, James (Sally) Wherley of Stone Creek, Rachel (Ross) Durdan of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, and Harold (Barb) Wherley Jr. of Avon Lake, OH.

Nineteen grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew complete the family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wherley is preceded in death by her sisters, Lucille Jack, Vidian Jack, and her brother, Harvey Jack.

Mrs. Wherley will be laid to rest in a private ceremony, alongside her husband in Stone Creek Cemetery. A family led memorial service in the Grace Community Church is planned for a later date.
