Rose Marie Beitzel, age 92, a longtime resident of New Philadelphia, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, November 22, 2008, in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover. Born at Canton, December 1, 1915, Rose was a daughter of the late Elmer and Irene (Kuhn) Mathias.Rose attended a one room school, Gribble School, near Stone Creek and was a lifetime member of the Jerusalem Church. There, she was active in the Woman’s Guild, the Ladies Aide Society, the Church Choir, and the Quilting Ladies Group. On March 10, 1934, Rose married Rolland Beitzel. Together the couple observed 52 years together prior to his death on May 19, 1986.A homemaker for most of her life, Rose will be remembered for her talent in the kitchen, especially her home made pot pie, and garden fresh French Fries. For twenty-eight years, Rose served as a press operator for Dover Molded Products. Rose had many interests and hobbies, including knitting, quilting, crocheting and singing. She also enjoyed working to solve puzzles. In addition to her church membership, Rose was a member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and enjoyed traveling with various senior groups, her family, and her late travel companion, Virginia Schwartz. Switzerland was one of her favorite destinations. Rose leaves behind a family that includes her three daughters; Marilyn (husband, Dwaine) Arbogast of Stone Creek, Josephine (husband, Robert) Huff, Lynda (husband, Curt) Garber both of New Philadelphia, and a son; Lynn Beitzel of New Philadelphia. A brother; Paul “Shorty” (wife, Jean) Mathias of New Philadelphia and a sister; Della (husband, Paul) Flickinger of Dover, also survive.She’ll be sadly missed by 10 grandchildren, Sherry (husband, Marvin) Debevec of Stone Creek, Marla (husband, Mark) Prysi of Dover, Vicki (husband, John) Emig, of Kent, Ohio, Sue (husband, Charles) Cox of New Philadelphia, Randy (wife, Shannon) Huff of Hamilton, Alabama, Sid (wife, Susan) Beitzel of Eastanollee, Georgia, Scott (wife, Kristen) Beitzel of Uhrichsville, Rod (wife, Wendy) McAfee of New Philadelphia, Kevin (wife, Michele) McAfee of Stow, and Molly (husband, Todd) MacMath of New Philadelphia. Rose’s great-grandchildren, Christopher Debevec and companion Natalie Burcaw, Evan Debevec, Katie and husband Seth Lute, Karie Prysi, Tiffani and Aaron Emig, Cayla and Cody Cox, Joshua and Jacob Huff, Drew, Cole and Aniston Beitzel, Madison and Dylan McKibben, Marissa, Colton, Logan, and Kaylee McAfee, and Emma Rose MacMath; and her great-great-grandsons, Thor and Evan Loki Debevec complete the family.In addition to her parents and husband, Rose is preceded in death by her son-in-law; Dale McAfee, two sisters; Alma Casebeer and Ruth Hilda Mathias, two brothers; Lester and Myles Mathias.Friends are invited to call Tuesday, November 25, from 2-4PM and from 6-8PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Dr. Terry Downin and Rose’s nephew Dale Fincher will lead her funeral Wednesday morning at 10:30 in Jerusalem Church. Burial will follow in the Jerusalem Church Cemetery. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Rd.
