Rose M. Yosick

January 6, 1909 — August 10, 2005

Rose M. Yosick, age 96, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at Union Hospital in Dover following a brief period of declining health. She was born January 6, 1909 in Hummel Valley, to the late Frank and Mabel Vitt. Rose lived in New Philadelphia her entire life with the exception of the past six years when she was a resident in the assisted living unit at New Dawn Retirement Community in Dover. Rose was a homemaker and worked as a food preparation demonstrator for the Ohio Power Company. As an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she also volunteered her time to support the Altar Society’s many charitable functions. Rose taught swimming as a volunteer for the Tuscarawas County YMCA for forty years. She also received numerous awards and much recognition for the thousands of hours she devoted to helping others, especially children with special needs, and was well-known for her pleasant demeanor and ready smile. Before moving to New Dawn, Rose loved to share the flowers, fruit and vegetables from her garden with family and friends. She traveled extensively with her children over the years and, in addition to swimming, she took pleasure in walking, allowing her to remain physically active well into her 90’s. Rose had the uncanny ability to glance down and find a four-leaf clover within seconds. She also was quick to make friends and counted among them the residents and caregivers at New Dawn. In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by a son Dale, her beloved husband of 46 years, John Paul Yosick; and sisters, Mary Mattevi and Julia Enama. She is survived by her older brother, Frank (Polly) Vitt; her daughter, Donna (David) Wright of Shepherdstown, West Virginia; her son, Paul (Barbara) Yosick of Knoxville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Susan (Richard) Estes, Steven (Linda) Wright, Julie (Tom) Cutler, Gina Yosick, and Mark Yosick; two great-grandchildren, Shelby Estes and Henry Cutler, and nieces and nephews of the Vitt and Yosick families. A funeral Mass celebrating her life will be conducted at Sacred Heart Church on August 27, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. George Schlegel officiating. Immediately following the funeral mass, family and friends are invited to a luncheon in St. Ambrose Hall. In continuation of her unselfish giving, Rose bequeathed her body to the Ohio State University Medical Center to be used in the training of medical students. Her cremated remains will be interred with those of her late husband and son at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia, OH. Memorial’s honoring Rose’s life may be made to the Tuscarawas County YMCA, 600 Monroe Street, Dover, OH 44622 (330-364-5511).
