Ronald N. Otto, age 54, of New Philadelphia passed away Monday, January 30, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Dover, he was the son of the late Ralph Willard and Mary Lou (Russell) Otto.
Ron honorably served his country in the United States Navy, and later completed his formal education. He was a member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445.
His professional career began at Starlight Enterprises where he served as a maintenance man. He then opened Affordable Heating & Cooling, before owning and operating an army surplus store.
Ron was an avid war book reader and always enjoyed watching the History Channel. He also enjoyed caring for homeless animals and teaching himself to play the drums.
He is survived by his sisters, Barb “Bubby” (Tom) Frohnapfel of New Philadelphia, Deb “Ebby” (Steve) Dowdle of Carrollton, and Sandi Garbrandt of Tuscarawas; his nieces and nephews, Doug DeLong of Uhrichsville, Ron (Hallie) Garbrandt of Dennison, Angie (Drew) Lippencott of Newcomerstown, Michelle Reynolds of Dover, Krista (Jeremy) Lindon of Tuscarawas, and Jamie Lee (Matt Harmon) Kinsey of Dover; his friend, Bob Page of Uhrichsville; his neighbors, Chad and Liz; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a dear friend, Tim Stauffer.
A graveside service will be held in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Chad Durfee officiating. The New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors.
