Ronald L. Quillin, age 76, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday afternoon in Aultman Hospital, following a sudden illness. Born at Mineral City, April 29, 1933, he was a son of the late Stewart and Edna Marlatt Quillin. Best known as Ron to his family and friends, he owned and operated Ronald Quillin Excavating for nearly forty years. Ron grew up working in the coal mines of northeastern Tuscarawas County, and following graduation from New Philadelphia High School in 1950, he entered the United States Army and was deployed to Korea where he was responsible for wiring telephone and telegraph lines. Upon his return to the Tuscarawas valley in the spring of 1955, he joined the former Moore Brothers Construction. Within a few years, Ron opened a builder’s supply store on New Phila’s east end. Ultimately, Ron purchased the local interests of Moore Brothers Construction in 1967, and began operating as Ronald Quillin Excavating, a company now run by his son Kelly. On August 12, 1956, Ron married the former Lois J. Millhorn. The couple spent forty-three years together prior to her death in October, 1999. Ron was a lifelong member of the New Cumberland United Methodist Church, and a life member of the VFW Post 1445 at New Philadelphia. He was also a longtime member of the Operating Engineers Union. In addition to his busy work and family life, Ron also opened Ron Quillin Vintage Cars in the 1980’s. Ron was also fond of antiques and restoration activities. He leaves behind his wife of the past nine years, Pauline Yanice Quillin. The couple was longtime acquaintances and married on April 26, 2000. Ron will be sadly missed by his daughter, Shannon (Matt) Dummermuth and his son Kelly (Tammy) Quillin, all of New Philadelphia. Four grandchildren; Natasha and Tyler Dummermuth as well as Colt and Laci Quillin, all of New Philadelphia, also survive. A sister, Val (John) Colbert of Sanford, Florida, and a brother, Joseph Richard (Doris) Quillin, of Mineral City, complete the family. In addition to his parents, and wife, Ron is preceded in death by a sister; Marjorie Lembright, and a brother George Quillin. Friends are invited to call Thursday, May 28, from 2-4 and from 6-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Ted Knapp will lead Mr. Quillin’s funeral service Friday morning at 10:30 in the New Cumberland United Methodist Church. Burial, with military honors conducted by the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445, will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery. Following the committal service, a meal for family and friends will be served in the church fellowship hall.
