Ronald H. Stein, 69, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in his home following a period of declining health.A son of the late Harold and Margaret (Lirgg) Stein, Ron was born on March 28, 1941 in Union Hospital at Dover.Ron graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1959. Then on November 1, 1959, he married the love of his life, the former Sylvia Horsfall. The couple raised four sons, Tim, Jeff, Scott and Matthew.He was retired from the Carpenters Union Local #69 and served as a York Township Trustee for more than 20 years. He was also a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.Ron was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting and dogs. Over the years, he has owned many Black and Tan Coon Hounds and Field Trial Dogs. He was also affiliated with many dog and hunting associations such as the Tuscarawas County Coon Hunters Association which he was currently the president; the American Black and Tan Association, the World Tree Dog Association, the United Kennel Club, the American Kennel Club and the Ohio Sportsmen Sporting Dog Association where he was currently the Vice-President. In 2009, Ron received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Black and Tan Association.Most of all, Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. When he wasn’t spoiling his own grandchildren, Ron loved to spoil other children.He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Stein of the home; his sons, Tim (Marcy) Stein of New Philadelphia, Jeff (Diane) Stein of Galena, Ohio and Scott (Amy) Stein of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, Casey (Kevin) Ramey of Sherrodsville, Andrew (Kerie Akins) Stein of Wainwright, Dakota Stein of Wainwright, Chelsea and Josh Stein both of Galena, Ohio, Jeremiah (Leslie) Stein and Brian, Tyler, Tucker Stein all of New Philadelphia; five great grandchildren, Brayden and Gretchen Stein, Kaden and Kensley Ramey and Grady Stein and a brother, Larry (Martha) Stein of New Philadelphia.Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Matthew Stein who passed away on August 12, 2005; a grandson, Bo Stein and a sister, Rosalie Stein.The family will receive friends on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Ron’s life will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Fry’s Valley Moravian Church Cemetery.
