Roland “Red” William Becker, 97, of Lakewood, Colorado, and formerly of Dover and New Philadelphia, died Thursday, September 20, 2007 in Villa Manor Care Center at Lakewood, Colorado. Born January 1, 1910 in Dover Township, he was the son of the late Albert and Clara Kreiter Becker.After finishing his formal education, Red began his professional career, having worked in the sales field and also as a truck driver. From 1939 to 1945, Red worked for Westinghouse at the Naval Ordinance Plant in Canton, O. In 1943, he did receive the Army-Navy E award for military defense during World War II. He served as a manager for a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle dealership in Coshocton, O. and his career concluded with the New Philadelphia schools in 1979 where he retired as a bus driver after ten years of service. Red was a 25 year resident of Dover, a 45 year resident of New Philadelphia, and a 20 year resident of Tampa, Florida, before he moved to Colorado to be near to his son in September of 2005. Together with his wife, the former Jessie Oringdorf, who died in 1991, he raised his son, James A. Becker of Englewood, Colorado. He is also survived by two grandsons, James Becker of Altamonte Springs, Florida and Jeff Becker of Dayton, Ohio; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Trudy Keller of Largo, Florida and Pauline Boyer of Beach City.Family and friends may call on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Red’s life will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor William Lucht officiating.
