Roger Wigfield

February 9, 1934 — October 15, 2015

Roger Allen Wigfield, 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away October 15, 2015 in Oak Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Baltic.

Born in Canton on February 9, 1934, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Porcher) Wigfield.

After graduating from Mineral City High School, Roger honorably served his country in the United States Army. On December 20, 1953, he married the former Earlene M. Stine, who preceded him in passing on September 11, 2003.

Roger worked for GTE as a lineman until his retirement in 1989. He also was employed with the United States Postal Service and briefly at Reese Cast Steel.

Roger and his wife enjoyed traveling after retirement. He was also an avid collector of hats. In recent years, Roger enjoyed gathering with friends at the Community Hospice breakfast at Dee’s Restaurant.

His family includes his children Sherri (Jeff) Grages of Bradenton, FL, Roger (Cheryl) Wigfield, II of Massillon, Bret (Jodi) Wigfield of Crittenden, KY, Tammi (James) Beal of Dover, and Bart (Melissa) Wigfield of New Philadelphia; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one anticipated soon; and his sister-in-law, Querda Wigfield of Louisiana.

In addition to his parents and wife, Roger was preceded in death by his two grandchildren Amber Grages and McKenzie Fox; his brother, Fred Wigfield; and his sister, Doris “Dode” Weber.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.
