Roger E. Crouse, Sr., age 68, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, August 2, 2010, in the Cleveland Clinic due to heart failure and complications from diabetes. A son of the late Leslie Earl and Laura (Baker) Crouse, Roger was born at East Orange, New Jersey on October 4, 1941.He graduated from East Orange High School at New Jersey and enlisted as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. Following his service with the Marines, Roger attended Rider College at New Jersey.In 1977, Roger relocated to the Tuscarawas Valley to be near family who had also relocated to the area. He began a career with the former Union Camp at Dover where he worked in the purchasing department. In 1994, Roger took a purchasing and quality assurance position with Allied Machine and remained with the firm until his retirement in 2004.Roger was a sports fan who had a deep passion for the Dallas Cowboys and The Ohio State University Football teams. He enjoyed working on classic cars, especially his 1955 Chevrolet. Additionally, Roger enjoyed hunting and being out of doors. For a number of years, he was the secretary for the Tusco Rifle Club and most recently had co-owned and operated Ridgetop Firearms along with his son, Randy.Most of all, Roger loved spending time with his family, who will forever remember times of gathering and special holiday seasons. For the past thirty-one years, Roger shared his life with his wife, Barb, and will also be missed by his family that includes three sons, Roger (Angie) Crouse, Jr. of Texarkana, Texas, Brian (Christy) Crouse of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Randy (Dawn) Crouse of Gambier, Ohio; a daughter, Carrie (fianc�, Sean Taylor) Crouse of Rockville, Maryland; a sister, Virginia Hart of New Philadelphia; and a special daughter, Myndy (Dennis) Kohl of Sherrodsville.Six grandchildren, Heather and Rachel Crouse of Sherrodsville, Roger Crouse, III of Texarkana, Texas, Mikayla & Isabella Crouse of Wichita Falls, Texas and Zachary Crouse of Canton, Ohio; two nephews, Stephen and Kevin Hart as well as his special four-legged companions, his dogs, Dakota and Mr. Magoo, complete the family.In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Crouse.The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6, 2010, from 4 to 5 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Dr. Steven Bailey will lead memorial service celebrating Roger’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday at 5 PM.The family requests that memorial contributions in Roger’s name be directed to the American Diabetes Association, PO BOX 11454, Alexandria, Virginia 22312 or to the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound, 441 University Drive, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
