Rockford Smart

Rockford “Rocky” Smart, 59, of Dover, passed away Friday, August 31, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton after a short illness.Rocky was a lifetime resident of the Dover area and attended Dover schools. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed his family, traveling, camping and fishing. He took special pride in his home which he constructed himself with much help from several close friends. He was self-employed in the roofing trade.He is survived by his wife, Michele (DeMeo) Smart of the home, with whom he celebrated 39 years of marriage; his son, Andrew Joseph (Valerie) Smart of Mineral City; and his grandchildren, Mallory Margaret Smart and Austin Joseph Smart; his siblings, Gertrude Gatten, Betty Webb, Jennie Harding, Ruth Meek, Becky Applegarth, Roy Tice, and Isaac Tice; sister-in-law, Mary Donna Deluca; brothers-in-law, Soc (Pat) DeMeo, and Ronnie (Sisty) DeMeo; and a special nephew, J. Peloso; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his mother, the late Jennie (Smart) Tice.Visitation will be held Monday, September 3, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel at New Philadelphia with a funeral service beginning at 5:00 p.m. Pastor Brian Flood will officiate the service. Following the service, friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a meal will be served. Inurnment of Rocky’s cremated remains will take place at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia at a later date.The family requests memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, Inc. 201 W. 3rd St., Dover, OH 44622.
