Robert W. Whipkey, 76, of Dover, passed away early Saturday morning, April 8, 2023 in Cleveland Clinic-Mercy Hospital at Canton.
Born May 16, 1946, in Wheeling, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James M. and Elizabeth L. (Lowe) Whipkey. Robert was a 1964 graduate of the former Jewett High School at Jewett and served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1965.
Over the years, Robert had worked as a Coal Miner with the Y&O Coal Mine in Hopedale; Owned and Operated the former Shell Station at Jewett and retired as a truck driver, owning, and operating his own truck. He was a natural “hands on” mechanic and could fix anything with a motor. In his spare time, he also loved woodworking and just spending time with his family. Robert was devoted to the Lord and he and his wife, both attended the Zion Church at Ragersville.
Surviving is his wife, Charlene H. (Thomas) Whipkey, whom he married on February 3, 1966; two daughters, Valynda Whipkey and Amy (Willard) Johnson; Grandchildren, Justin (Megan) Twaddle, Brandon Twaddle, Logan Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Hunter Moore, and Bevan (Alan) Ochs; Great-Grandchildren, Canaan, Delaney, Bristol, Sylvia, Jace, Sterling, Jaxon, Levi, Kaden and a brother, James (Mary Ellen) Whipkey.
In addition to his parents, two sisters, Linda Woods, and Janey Watt, are also deceased.
In keeping with his wishes, Robert is to be cremated through the care of the Geib Funeral Center & Crematory at Dover and burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery at Jewett at a later date.
