ROBERT W. HEMMEGER, 82, of New Philadelphia and formerly of Dover, died Saturday, January 18, 2003 at Union Hospital.Bob was born in New Philadelphia, the only son to the late Walter S. and ZeEtta Griffin Hemmeger. He attended New Philadelphia High School. On July 13, 1940 Bob married Essie F. Emhoff, who survives. During World War II, Bob served honorably with the U. S. Army Air Corps. From 1959 to 1977 he owned and operated “Hemmeger Harley-Davidson” in New Philadelphia near the intersection of Second St., NE and East High Avenue. A life-member of the Yellow Jackets Motorcycle Club, he was a former member of the New Philadelphia BPOE #510, Loyal Order of Moose, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, New Philadelphia Lodge No. 177, F. & A. M. and Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 222. Bob was also a former flight instructor at Harry Clever Field. In addition to Essie, Bob is survived by two nieces, Judie Lynn (Mike) Ashbaugh of West Jefferson, NC and Jill Lynn (Chuck) Matts of Florence, KY and their families, and a cousin, Mary Jane Young of New Philadelphia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marja Wells Polasky. The memorial service will be Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with Darryl Swier and Alan Stutzman speaking. Private burial will take place at Evergreen Burial Park. There will be no calling hours. Instead of flowers, please honor Bob’s life with contributions to the Leukemia Society of America, 20525 Center Ridge Rd., Cleveland, OH 44116.
