Robert V. “Bob” Artzner, 86, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, December 24, 2003, following a courageous six-year battle with cancer. He was a patient at Union Hospital in Dover.Born July 2, 1917, in Malvern, OH, Bob was one of seven sons born to the now late Lawrence Ambrose and Clara Juletta Laubacher Artzner. He attended Malvern High School.Bob worked at Hercules Motor Company in Canton before being called to active duty in the United States Army in June, l942. He served as an amphibious engineer, as a member of the military police, and as an orderly at the Veteran’s Hospital in San Francisco before being honorably discharged in l945.Returning to civilian life, he became manager of the New Philadelphia Equipment Company and worked with the Dover News Agency. In 1953, he became a crane operator at the former Warner & Swasey Gradall where he worked for 29 years before retiring.Bob was a generous, hard-working, and devoted husband and father. He loved his Jesus and all whom he met. A member of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover, he was a deacon, an usher, and a member of the Men’s Bible Study. He was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and currently a member of the Senior Center in Dover. He will be missed by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn Eileen Gurney Artzner; three daughters, Berlinda Artzner-Gordon of Dover, Colette Oreto of Miramar, FL, and Shureen Artzner of Dover; one son, Darrah (Marilyn) Artzner of Houston, TX; six grandchildren, Jason Gordon, Erik (Jennifer) Oreto, Troy (Kelly) Oreto, Blake Oreto, Erin Artzner, Christopher Artzner; one great grandson, Logan Oreto; one brother, Omer Artzner of Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews . He was anticipating the arrival of two additional great grandchildren in the upcoming months.Five brothers, Joseph, Cecil, Ralph, Francis, and Arthur; his parents; and a son-in-law, Dennis Oreto, preceded him in death.Friends may call on the family at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, December 26, 2003, from 4 – 7 pm. Services will be conducted by Pastor David Wing on Saturday, December 27, 2003, at 11:00 AM at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover, OH. A luncheon and time for sharing memories will follow the service in the church family center. Committal will be at Sandy Valley Cemetery in Waynesburg, OH, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 pm.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Foursquare Gospel Church, 302 East Slingluff Avenue, Dover, OH 44622 or the Emerge Ministries, 900 Mull Avenue, Akron, OH 44313.
