Robert (Bob) Scott Slauson, Sr., 75, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on Friday evening, February 9, 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra (Zimmerman) Slauson; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Scott, Jr. and Melissa (Amistadi) Slauson; grandson, Robert Scott Slauson III and fiancée Taylor Martini; sister, Judy (James) Keller; brother, Jeff (Rebecca) Slauson. Also numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Scott and Mildred (Horton) Slauson, and brother, David.
He was born in Amsterdam, New York on January 21, 1943, and was a 1961 graduate of Marion Catholic High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1961-1965, and was a Vietnam veteran who flew off the USS Yorktown.
Bob earned his Bachelor of Science in Education, Master’s Degree in English and completed Pre-Doctoral work at Bowling Green State University.
He taught High School English for 35 years and writing courses at the Tusc Branch of Kent State University.
Bob was an avid reader and collector of books, and his interests included visiting historical locations, fishing, antiquing, and target shooting. Family was most important to Bob and he enjoyed spending time with them.
A Memorial Mass will be held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:30 am, with visitation from 9:30–10:30 in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob’s memory may be directed to the Sacred Heart Building Fund, 139 3rd St. NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. Also, Bob was the recipient of many generous blood donations throughout his illness, and blood donations can be given to any area blood bank in his memory.
