Robert Scott Bucher

January 9, 1934 — September 6, 2011

Robert Scott Bucher, age 77, of New Philadelphia, a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, passed away early Tuesday evening, September 6, 2011, in Cleveland Clinic following a lengthy and courageous battle with heart disease for 18 years, and non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for the past eleven years. Born at Mineral City, January 9, 1934, he was a son of the late Scott and Emma Krebs Bucher. A lifelong resident of the area, he met and fell in love with his future wife in Sunday School. Their first date, at the age of 16 was to the Tuscarawas County Fair. On June 18, 1953, he married the former Lucille Beavers, and has called her “the love of his life” for the last fifty-eight years. Mr. Bucher was a member of International Laborers Local #134, and was a thirty year veteran of Gundy Construction Co. He was proud to have taken part in projects all across the valley but especially in the construction of the Tuscarawas Campus of Kent State University, in the renovation of Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium and the repairs to New Philadelphia High School following the fire. At home, Bob could be counted on to fix just about anything. He especially enjoyed tinkering with old farm equipment, doing woodworking in his shop, and playing the guitar. The Gaithers were especially inspirational in his preference for music. Each spring, Bob was known to pick first Sweet Peas and later Red Roses from his garden for his “Honey”.A devoted Christian, Bob was a charter member of the New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene, read his Bible daily alongside his wife Lucille, and was proud to have taken part in the construction of the present church building. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son, Terry (wife, Nancy) Bucher of Morton, IL, and two daughters Vicki (husband, Mike) Cunningham, and Robin (husband, Doug) Gibbs, all of New Philadelphia. He’ll be remembered as grandpa, “pa-ee” and “pap-paw” by his loving grandchildren, Cassandra Bucher of Morton, IL, Adam (wife, Emma) Bucher of Champaign, IL, Sarah Bucher of Quincy, IL, Stephanie Bucher of Eureka, IL, Amanda Cunningham and Rachel Gibbs, both of New Philadelphia. One great grandson of Morton, IL, who was named Cody Robert Bucher, to honor his great-grandfather, also survives. Two sisters; Marjorie (husband, James) Trachsel and Betty (husband, Eugene) Parson, all of New Philadelphia, a brother; Jim (wife, Norma) Bucher of Dover, as well as his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Charles (wife, Geraldine) Beavers of Carrollton, Ethel Beavers of Dover, Ernest Beavers, Ray (wife, Marcia) Beavers, and Jim (wife, Leila) Beavers, all of New Philadelphia, complete the family. In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his infant twin sisters, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Willard Beavers, Dolores (husband, Elvin) Robinson, Kathryn (husband, Herb) Robinson and Linda Beavers. Friends are invited to call Friday, from 2-4 and from 6-8 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Jason Caddy will lead a funeral for Mr. Bucher Saturday afternoon at 1PM in New Philadelphia’s First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover with a luncheon reception in the church fellowship hall at the conclusion of the graveside service. Bob’s life came to an end as a result of heart disease, and the family is extremely grateful to Dr. James Schmotzer, and his staff, who have successfully treated Bob’s Lymphoma for more than a decade. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Philadelphia First Church of Nazarene, 233 Fair Avenue NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Linn-Hert-Geib (330) 343-5506 www.geibcares.com
