Robert R. Goudy

Robert R. Goudy, 88, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in Hennis Care & Retirement Centre at Dover following a brief illness.A son of the late Albert and Flossie (Stuber) Goudy, Robert was born November 24, 1921 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.Robert graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1940. He enlisted with the United States Navy in 1943 and honorably served his country during World War II. During the war, Robert was stationed on the destroyer, the U.S.S. DeHaven DD 727 which took part in the Philippines, Iwo Jima and the Okinawa Campaigns.On March 28, 1946, Robert married the former Betty Robinson and together the couple raised one son, Douglas. The couple shared 60 years of marriage prior to Betty’s passing on May 25, 2006.He retired from Warner-Swasey, currently known as Gradall in 1985 after 32 years of service.Robert attended Roxford United Methodist Church. Robert enjoyed hunting and target shooting and was a member of the Tusco Rifle Club and the National Rifle Association.He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Goudy and Beckie Everett Goudy of New Philadelphia, with whom he resided and numerous nieces and nephews.Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and a brother, George Goudy.The family will receive friends on Monday, March 15, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Ron Heasley will lead a funeral service celebrating Robert’s life on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia V.F.W.
