Robert O. Stemple, age 85, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, in Country Club Retirement Campus at Dover.A son of the late Lincoln O. and Irene (Phillips) Stemple, Robert was born on July 28, 1924, at New Philadelphia.Robert graduated from New Philadelphia City Schools and would serve in the United States Army during World War II where he would be honored with the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Ribbon.Robert made a career out of public service serving as an Auditor for the State of Ohio, a city Auditor for New Philadelphia, and would also work as New Philadelphia’s Safety Director. Additionally, Robert enjoyed his work at Ohio Savings and Trust and the Citizens Bank.During his free time, Robert continued his service to his community as an active member of the Democratic Party and the New Philadelphia Jaycees. Robert also enjoyed the fellowship of those he encountered as a Lifetime Member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge, #510 B.P.O.E. and Carl C. Stoller Post #1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW and as a member of the former New Philadelphia Eagles and Moose Lodges.Robert leaves behind a family that includes his wife, the former Delene Steffey; two sons, Dale (Jenna) Stemple of Mansfield and Dick (Janie) Stemple of Dover and three grandchildren, Curtis Stemple, Kyle (Lindsay) Stemple, and Leann (James) Stephens.Seven great-grandchildren, Matt, Glenn, Gage, Olivia, Brandon, Dillon, and Bailey; three former granddaughters-in-law, Marianne, Jen and Denise as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronald, David, William and Kenneth Stemple; two sisters, Patricia Law and Mildred Pearch and a grandson, Edward Stemple.The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 9:30 â?? 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 30, 2010, in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philaelphia. Reverend Hugh B. Berry will lead a celebration of Robert’s life on Saturday at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Immediately following the service, members of the Carl C. Stoller Post #1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors. In keeping with Robert’s wishes cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover.The family requests that memorial contributions in Robert’s name be directed to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
