Born in Phoenix, Arizona on September 3, 1945, he was the son of the late Samuel Earl and Mary Frances (Jenkins) Lawrence.
After completing his high school education, Robert married his loving wife and dearest friend, the former Rebecca J. Smith on March 28, 1965 in New Philadelphia. Their life together was blessed with three children, Robin, Ryan, and Randall and six grandchildren.
Together, their faith was nurtured at Community of Christ Church in New Philadelphia, where Robert was a former pastor, served as an elder, and participated as an active vocalist.
Professionally, Robert served as a truck driver for Maverick Transport for 11 years in Little Rock, Arkansas. He completed 1 million safe miles during his career.
For enjoyment, Robert loved to be on the golf course. He was especially proud of his hole-in-one on a par 4 at the old Sugar Creek Golf Course on his 45th birthday. While vacationing, he enjoyed walking the beaches of the Florida shores and collecting sea shells of all shapes and colors.

(Peggy) Lawrence of Independence, MO; his brother, David (Dianna) Lawrence of New Philadelphia; his father and mother-in-law, Robert D. and Jean Smith; his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Jessica, and Cameron Lawrence, all of Alexandria, VA, and Miranda, Mackenzie, and Tanner Immel, all of Dover and his beloved pets, Bandit and Pansy.
Other survivors include three nieces, two nephews and their families as well as two great-nieces, with whom he was especially close.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September, 12, 2012 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia.
