Robert M. “Bob” Barbee, 81, left this troubled world on December 9, 2020 and entered his eternal home and into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ. What a glorious day that was for him!
Bob was born at the family home in New Philadelphia on June 2, 1939, the sixth son of the late Harold and Viva (Lightfoot) Barbee.
After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1958, Bob began working for Empire Detroit in their maintenance department. He also served with the National Guard from 1959 to 1962.
On November 25, 1961, Bob married his one true love, Judith Hobart. They shared 59 years together, both the really wonderful times and the times of testing. With the Lord’s faithfulness to lead them, they always came out on the winning side.
In January 1992, Bob retired from AK Steel and began a second career in remodeling. The Lord blessed him in this endeavor and he installed many new kitchens and baths in the area and beyond.
Bob will be deeply missed by Judy, who loved and cared for him as he struggled against the effects of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy since 2016. Bob is also survived by his two special children and their spouses, Lorinda and Pete Popa of East Canton and Phillip and Terry Barbee of Mineral City; grandson, Joshua Popa, who brought a lot of fun and laughter into Grampa and Gramma’s lives. Also, grandchildren, Chad Franklin, Drew Hutchison and Erika (fiancé, Ryan Moore) Hutchison; brother, John Barbee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in passing by siblings, Phyllis Liberatore, Clyde, William, Harold, and his twin, Ralph “Mike” Barbee.
A memorial service for Bob is being planned at a later date.
