Robert Leonard Beatty, age 77, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, September 25, 2011, in Union Hospital at Dover following a lengthy illness. Born at Dover, March 28, 1934, he was a son of the late Robert E. and Lucille Minor Beatty. A life long resident of New Philadelphia, he graduated from NPHS in 1952, and went on to enter the United States Marine Corps in 1954, earning the rank of Lance Corporal upon his honorable discharge in 1956. Upon his return to New Philadelphia, he met and fell in love with Texanna Stephen. The couple wed January 25, 1959. Ever a busy man, Mr. Beatty began his work career at the former IF Manufacturing, then went on to work in life insurance with the Prudential Insurance Companies before returning to the work force at Babcock & Wilcox. He will be best remembered for starting his own business, Rainbow Carpet Cleaning, and for the impeccable service he provided to his clients. Active in the community, Mr. Beatty was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445, the Dennison Eagles, having recently earned the Double Eagle Award for his longtime membership, and was a former member of the New Philadelphia Moose and the New Philadelphia Elks. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and golfing. He was also fond of his faithful companion, Fritz, the dog.Survivors, in addition to his wife of fifty two years, include his children; Doreena (husband Doug,) Hicks, Gary (wife, Stacy) Beatty, Dianna (husband, James) McCartney all of Dennison. He’ll be sadly missed by his five grandchildren; Eric (Julie) McCartney, Michelle and Aaron McCartney, Julia and Jared Beatty.A great-granddaughter, Cassidy Andreas as well as one great-grandchild who is expected this February, also survive. A brother, Jack Beatty of Coshocton, and a sister, Darlene (Albert) Baumer of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews, complete the family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Beatty is preceded in death by an infant son, Eddie, and his well-known paternal grandfather, Marshall Beatty, widely known for the Peanut Stand he operated in downtown New Philadelphia at the turn of the last century. Friends are invited to call Thursday morning from 10-11 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia, where Pastor Ron Heasley will lead a funeral service at 11AM. Inurnment, with military honors will follow in New Philadelphia’s East Avenue Cemetery. Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the Roxford Family Life Center.
