Robert L. Baker, age 77, of New Philadelphia died Monday, November 23, 2009, in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a period of declining health.A son of the late Walter and Pearl (Prysi) Baker, Bob was born on December 4, 1931, at Dover, Ohio.Bob attended Dover City Schools and would go on to honorably serve his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. Following his discharge, for a period of time, Bob worked for the Gradall Company of New Philadelphia in the maintenance and equipment repair department. On August 14, 1976, Bob married the former Nancy Jo Severn and together would rear a lovingly blended family that included eight children.Bob was a longtime member of the Port Washington Baptist Church where he enjoyed spending time working on projects throughout the church. He also was an avid camper and joke teller.”Poppy” as he was known to his family, leaves behind his wife of more than thirty years, Nancy Jo; five daughters, Debbie (George) Pabin of West Lafayette, Kathy (Joe) Duff of Coshocton, Patty Donahue of Kimbolton, Jenny (Dave) Werner of Tiffin, Ohio, and Melody Moss of New Philadelphia; two sons, Robert Baker and Jerry Green, II both of New Philadelphia; and a brother, Roy (Audrey) Baker of Dover.Twenty grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends complete the family.In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Orval and Kenneth Baker, a son, William Green, Sr.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 29, 2009, from 2:00 Â? 5:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to services on Monday, November 30, 2009, from 9:30 Â? 10:30 AM. Pastor Paul Schwab, will lead a service celebrating Bob’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Monday at 10:30 AM. Burial in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover will follow with military honors provided by members of the Carl C.
