Robert J. Storck, 83, of New Philadelphia died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 in Country Lawn Nursing Home at Navarre.A son of the late Jacob and Bessie (Harbolt) Storck, Bob was born August 11, 1924 near Stone Creek, Ohio.He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1942. On April 22, 1943, Bob was called to serve his country during World War II in the United States Navy Air Corps. He served in the Fleet Air Wing 7, which flew out of an airbase in Dunkeswell, England and patrolled the Atlantic Ocean in search of enemy ships and submarines. He later served as a military police officer at San Francisco, California. Bob was honorably discharged from the service on April 4, 1946. He then continued his education at Heidelburg College graduating in 1950.Bob worked as an insurance agent for Western-Southern Life Insurance Company for 28 years. He retired in 1980.He was a life member of both the New Philadelphia Elks and the New Philadelphia V.F.W. During the 1950’s, Bob served as a Boy Scout leader as well as coaching Little League baseball for many years. Bob was a longtime member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia.In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. In his later years, Bob became an avid gardener and he enjoyed sharing his produce with family and friends. During his retirement years, he enjoyed refinishing furniture. Bob was also an avid sports fan that enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns as well as the Ohio State teams.He is survived by his loving wife, Janice (Kuenzli) Storck, whom he married on October 29, 1950; a daughter, Susan (David) Knight of West Salem, Ohio; two sons, David Storck of New Philadelphia and Donald Storck of Pennington, New Jersey; grandchildren, Andy Knight of Medina, Ohio, Kate (Adam) Harbaugh of West Salem, Ohio and Zoey and Charlie Storck of Pennington, New Jersey; one sister, Phyllis Swartzbaugh of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Norma (Richard) Mueller of Columbus, Ohio; one niece and four nephews.Bob was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and an infant grandson.Family and friends may call on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Bob’s life will be held on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Revs. Jeffrey Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post # 1445 will render military honors.
