Robert George McVicker, Sr., age 81, of Sherrodsville, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, July 22, 2007, in his residence. Born at Chatham, Ohio, May 16, 1926, he was a son of the late Hershel and Grace Borland McVicker.Robert served our country honorably during World War II in the United States Navy. During the war, he was stationed in the South Pacific, in Chicago, Illinois, Pleasanton, California and Bridgepoint, Australia. He was a member of the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association. For most of his life, Robert worked in the Oil industry where he owned and operated his own oil field service company, Mac Frac Incorporated, from which he retired in 1987. Over the years, he was also affiliated with the former Firestone Telephone Company at Chatham, Sandy Supply Company, Cosco, and the W.B. Armstrong Drilling Company, all of Wooster. He leaves behind a family that includes his wife, the former Margaret Alice Swonger McVicker, of Sherrodsville. The couple wed December 10, 1977, and would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary later this year. He’ll be sadly missed by his five sons and daughters, Robert G. (wife Pat) McVicker Jr. of Millersburg, Ohio, Brenda Haesaert of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Lisa (husband Jim) Thompson of Wooster, Ohio, Tina Crain of Mineral Wells, West Virginia, and Kenneth (wife Melissa) McVicker of Killbuck, Ohio; four step-children, Penny Eichel of Canton, Ohio, Randy (wife Kim) Swonger of Navarre, Ohio, Mark Swonger of Strasburg, Ohio, and Brian (wife Karen) Swonger, also of Strasburg, Ohio. 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and a brother, Melvin McVicker of Church Hill, Tennessee, complete the family. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin McVicker, and a sister, Evie Dibble. Friends are invited to call Wednesday, July 25, from 2-4 and from 6-8 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Pastor Bob Angel will lead the McVicker Funeral Service Thursday morning at 11 AM in the funeral center. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Dover Burial Park, across the street from the Geib Funeral Center.
