Robert Eugene Vandine, age 62, of New Philadelphia, died early Tuesday morning, April 12, 2005, in Mercy Medical Center at Canton. Born August 11, 1942, at Uhrichsville, Robert was a son of the late Russell “Bud” and Ethel Mary Wharton Vandine. Robert attended Uhrichsville High School before serving his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. There he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, two outstanding service bars, and was an expert rifleman. At home, he was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Chevy muscle cars. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on his own Chevy. He enjoyed playing Bingo and other games of chance. Mr. Vandine will be sadly missed by his daughters; Julie (fiancé Greg Tope) Vandine of Dover, and Nicole “Nikki” Vandine of New Philadelphia, his sons; Anthony “Tony” Vandine of Dover, and Mike Vandine of New Philadelphia, his granddaughter; Alexee Vandine, and step-granddaughter; Cassidy Tope.Survivors also include his two sisters; Betty (Bobby) Mutersbaugh of Uhrichsville, and Patricia (Robert) Chaney of Arizona City, Arizona, two brothers; James (Nancy) Vandine of Uhrichsville, and George “Skeet” Vandine of Uhrichsville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Vandine family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 4 until 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Vandine will be cremated at Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville, where military honors will be rendered, at a later date.
