Robert Edward Angel, age 82, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006 in his home. Born at Cleveland, Ohio, March 1, 1924, Robert was a son of the late Edward and Lillian Renard Angel. Mr. Angel attended New Philadelphia schools before entering the United States Army in 1943. Mr. Angel served during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1945. On May 17, 1952, he married the former Beverly J. Rennicker. The couple celebrated their forty-fourth wedding anniversary prior to her death on October 26, 1996. Robert was always proud of his service as a member of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Auxiliary Force Â? having been a graduate of the first Auxiliary training program. He also volunteered for the former Easter Seals (now known as the Rainbow Connection) and at the I-77 Welcome Center. Mr. Angel was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, and the American Legion at Dover. For more than three decades, Mr. Angel worked at Marlite prior to his retirement. Over the years, Robert worked for The Times-Reporter at New Philadelphia and Special Packaging Incorporated at Strasburg. When not working or volunteering, Robert passed time with family and friends playing cards – especially Skipo Â? working crossword puzzles or other word search games. Survivors include his longtime companion, Helen Dunlap of Dover, his sister Martha (Jack) Carling of Mineral City, a son, John Goddard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, two granddaughters, Monica (Don) Wimberly of Punta Gourde, Florida, and Connie Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, a grandson, Nathan Goddard of Las Vegas, Nevada, eight great-grandchildren, seven brothers and sisters-in-law; Edna (Raymond) Emery of Dover, Mildred (Raymond) Butts of New Philadelphia, Burt (Carol) Rennicker of Carrollton, Carolyn (Carl) Sinsel of Sherrodsville, Mary (Bob) Wallace of New Philadelphia, Joe (Pam) Rennicker of New Philadelphia, and Gary (Mary) Rennicker of Dover. Numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. In addition to his parents, and wife, Robert was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Vesta McCartney Rennicker and Ernest Rennicker, as well as a sister-in-law Shirley Rennicker, and brothers-in-law Dwight, Ernest, Howard and Albert Rennicker. Friends are invited to call Friday, June 23, from 2PM Â? 4PM and from 6PM Â? 8PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Kelly Brown will lead funeral services for Mr. Angel Saturday morning, June 24 at 11 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a reception will be given for family and friends in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
