Robert E. Goss

Robert E. “Pete” Goss, age 77, of New Philadelphia died on Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Union Hospital, In Dover, following an extended illness. Born December 20, 1924, he was the son of the late Ervin and Mary Madden Goss. Robert was a steel worker for Greer Steel, in Dover, where he retired after 37 years. He was a US Army Veteran having served in the Pacific during WWII. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Tuscarawas, the Tuscarawas V.F.W. and a life member of the Dover Moose. Robert also enjoyed attending the Indian Valley High School sporting events.He is preceded in death by his first wife Jean Goss who died in 1979. Surviving is a son, Robert (Kristen) Goss, Jr. of New Philadelphia; sister, Geraldine Byers of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Scott Goss, Shana (Jerry) Carman, Ryan Shear, and Stephanie (Doug) Miles; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Hailee; former wife Emma LehighIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Shear; four sisters, Gail Goodie, Dorothy Clatterbuck, Marge Uebel, and Carole Varnes; infant brothers, William and Gerald.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 10:30 AM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth G. Hacker officiating. Burial will be at St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Tuscarawas where military graveside services will be conducted. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 12, 2002, from 5-8 PM in the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
