Robert E. Doak, age 82 of New Philadelphia and Hennis Care Center of Dover passed away Monday, August 25, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover.Bob was born on May 5, 1926, at Middlebourne, West Virginia, a son of the late Jesse and Ethel (Wagner) Doak. A graduate of Tyler County High School at Middlebourne, Bob served his country during World War II, as a member of the United States Navy. Following an honorable discharge from active duty, Bob returned home to Middlebourne only to soon find himself as a co-owner of the family business, Doaks IGA, after the passing of his father, Jesse.For more than 40 years Bob faithfully served his community in a wide range of civic activities. Bob served as an active member in the Civil Air Patrol, served Tyler County for more than 20 years as a County Commissioner, and spent 17 years on the Board of Directors for the Union Bank of Tyler County, a position Bob truly enjoyed holding.Additionally, for a period of time, Bob served on the Middlebourne City Council and was active in activities as a member of the Middlebourne Church of Christ; and for the past nine years, Bob has been a member of the Church of Christ at New Philadelphia.Moreover, Bob was a fan of both the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet; two daughters, Lisa Doak of New Philadelphia, and Angie (Mark) Beros of Senecaville; a son Scott (Stacy) Doak also of New Philadlephia.Eight grandchildren, Luke, Kara, Alli, Hannah, Shane, Brandon, Ashton, Garrett, and one great grandchild, Dane, completes the family.In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. Pastor Tim Hatfield will lead a memorial service celebrating Bob’s life on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 1:30 PM in the Church of Christ at New Philadelphia.Those unable to attend services are welcome to send the family personal condolences by visiting the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1815 W.
