Robert Doyle Huff, age 78, of New Philadelphia died peacefully early Thursday, March 28, 2013, in New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover.
A son of the late Ralph W. and Zelpha F. (Reidenbaugh) Huff, Bob was born at New Philadelphia, on August 29, 1934.
He attended New Philadelphia High School and was employed by the former Shenango Company at Dover where he worked in the foundry before retiring in March of 1989 following 32 years of service.
On August 28, 1955, Bob was united in marriage to the former Josephine Beitzel and as a couple reared three children. Together they shared their love of being with family by attending sporting events and activities of their grandchildren throughout Ohio and Alabama; faithfully following them through their high school and college years. Bob will be remembered for the time he devoted to taking interest in the lives of young people around him. He was a familiar face at area sporting events and was always an ardent supporter of the New Philadelphia Quakers.
Bob was a 58 year member of Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia. Additionally, he served as a lifeguard and swimming Instructor for the Tuscarawas County YMCA and the Muskingum Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross.
In his spare time, he enjoyed beach vacations with his family and friends. Bob had a special appreciation for the outdoors, from hunting and fishing to watching outdoor sports of all kind. He will be remembered for his woodworking, with his children and grandchildren especially benefiting from this talent. From rocking-horses to tables and chairs to baby cradles – his love for his family was reflected in the fine craftsmanship of his work for the benefit of his family.
In addition to his wife of 57 and ½ years, Bob is survived by his three children, Vicki (John) Emig of Kent, Sue (Chuck) Cox of New Philadelphia and Randy (Shannon) Huff of Hamilton, Alabama; a sister, Nancy Demattio of Hackettstown, New Jersey, and a brother, Ralph (Joy) Huff, Jr. of New Philadelphia.
Completing the family are grandchildren, Tiffani Emig of Pittsburgh, Aaron Emig (fiancée Adriane Smith) of Cleveland Heights, Cayla Cox (fiancée DJ Nichols) of New Philadelphia, Cody Cox of Cleveland, Joshua Huff of Huntsville, Alabama, Jacob Huff and Elizabeth Huff, both of Hamilton, Alabama.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert J. Demattio.
