Born in Dennison on April 4, 1929, he was the son of the late Edgar Earl and Bertha M. (Patterson) Turney. Dean honorably served his country in the United States Army and was a medic in the Korean War.
On September 18, 1954, Dean married his lifelong companion and friend, the former Nellie L. Davis, who preceded him in passing on July 16, 2015.
His professional career spanned a number of years with the former Belden Brick Company in Port Washington. Ultimately, he retired in 1991 from the coal mines.
Dean loved the outdoors whether he was swinging on his porch, tending to his garden or mowing his land. Throughout his lifetime, he collected, restored, and drove cars and motorcycles, including his Harley. He also had a talent for woodworking and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He will be deeply missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert Alan and Martha Turney of New Philadelphia; his grandson, Jeremy (Jennifer) Turney of Dover; his four step-great-granddaughters; his brothers-in-law, Charles (Linda) Davis of Strasburg and Larry Everett of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Dean was preceded in passing by his brothers, Leroy (Goldie), Earl (Goldie), Ralph (Betty), Gail (Kathryn), Harold and Harry; and his sisters, Mildred (Jim) Tinney, Lula (Paul) Ferguson, and Mary Turney.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 5 to 8 PM. A service celebrating Dean’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 beginning at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia where the Tuscarawas VFW will render military honors.
