Robert “Bob” Dean Giauque, age 74, of Dover, died early Wednesday morning, July 27, 2005, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at Navarre, September 24, 1930, he was a son of the late Ralph K. Giauque and Rosie Meyer Giauque Clemens. Bob grew up and attended school in Strasburg. In 1949, he entered the United States Marine Corps. Upon his discharge December 13, 1952, he continued his education at Tri-State-University at Angola, Indiana. In 1956, he received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and became a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio. For the next thirty-two years, Bob was associated with the Ohio Department of Transportation in various positions including terms of service as a project engineer, field engineer, area engineer and construction engineer. Mr. Giauque was a member of the First Church of the Brethren at New Philadelphia and New Philadelphia Lodge #177 of the F. & A. M. where in 1982, he was elected Worshipful Master of the Lodge. He was a member of the St. Bernard Commandery # 109 Tuscarawas Chapter, and the Tuscarawas Council Blue Lodge. Bob was also a member of the State Employees Retirement Association, the Country Campers Club and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, the former Beverly Bailey. The couple was wed May 17, 1953. Together, they raised two daughters; Cindy Giauque Huyghe of New Philadelphia, and Bobbi Giauque Reed of Galion, Ohio. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Beth (Robb) Crouse of Savanna, Georgia, Ashley (Jayson) Forwith, Annie Rose Reed, Alex (Jennifer) Reed, all of Galion, Ohio, and Jay (Tara) Huyghe of Jacksonville, North Carolina, a great-granddaughter; Katelynn Crouse, a sister; Ruth Wilkes of North Canton, Ohio, two brothers-in-law Richard (Treva) Bailey of New Philadelphia, and Myron Bailey of New Jersey, two nieces; Dr. Brenda Bailey of Columbus, Ohio and Nancy (Don) Maltese of Canton, three nephews; Rick Bailey of Los Angeles, California, Ron Bailey of New Jersey and Randy (Maria) Bailey of New Philadelphia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Giauque was preceded in death by his step-father, Alfred Clemens, an infant sister, and two friends, who were also his sons-in-law; Jeffrey Huyghe formerly of New Philadelphia and Larry Reed formerly of Galion, Ohio. Friends are invited to call Friday, July 29, 2005 anytime after 2 PM with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Masonic Lodge of Sorrow will convene at 7:45. Pastor Max Canfield will lead Mr. Giauque’s funeral ceremony Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg.
