Robert D. Bricker Sr., age 77 of Newcomerstown, passed away Friday, April 24, 2009 in Riverside Manor Nursing Home at Newcomerstown following a lengthy period of declining health.Born in Newcomerstown on March 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Tarence Woodburn Bricker and Naomi Bell (Ricketts) Craigo. Bob was educated at Newcomerstown High School before joining the military where he honorably served our country. He then joined the workforce having retired as a foreman from Polymer Products Company.Bob was a man of the elements. Throughout his lifetime, he spent many days on the lake fishing. He was especially fond of Wills Creek. He was also an excellent pool player.The Newcomerstown American Legion Post #431 was a place of great importance to Bob. He was the Commander at the American Legion from 2000 â?? 2004 and was a lifetime member.On November 13, 1979, Bob married his devoted and loving wife, the former Kathleen “Kathy” Jo Swigert. He is also survived by his sons, Bob Bricker Jr. and Mitch (wife, Jodi) Bricker, both of Newcomerstown; two step-sons, Butch and Brett Swigert; his daughter who he adopted when he was 70 years old, Gabrielle Bricker of the home; his brother, Glenn (wife, Dixie) Bricker also of Newcomerstown; three grandchildren, Caine (wife, Rachel) Bricker, and Libby and Jill Bricker. His great-granddaughter, Cadence Bricker, completes his family.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four siblings, Jean Heller, and Mark, Merle and Jack Bricker.In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. No public visitation is scheduled. A memorial fish fry will be held at the Newcomerstown American Legion at a later date.Bob’s family requests memorial contributions in his memory be directed to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W 3rd St., Dover, OH 44622.
