Robert Dale Fuhrer, 89, a life long resident of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a period of declining health.A son of the late John D. and Pearl (Riedenbaugh) Fuhrer, Bob was born February 3, 1921 in his childhood home at New Philadelphia.Bob graduated from New Philadelphia High School and then entered the United States Air Force honorably serving his country during World War II. He was currently enrolled in Cadet Training at the time the war ended.On June 13, 1943, Bob married the love of his life, the former Josephine Tristano. Together the couple observed their 66th wedding anniversary in 2009. Josephine preceded Bob in death on February 18, 2010.He retired from Zedmark Company at Parral after 39 years of service. Following his retirement, Bob continued full time as the owner and operator of Bob’s Sweeper Service and faithfully served his customers for over 44 years until his health no longer permitted him to do so. Bob was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia where he was an usher, a greeter and a member of the Martin Luther Class. He was also a member of the Full Gospel Businessman’s Association of New Philadelphia.It was obvious that Bob’s true hobby was working but he enjoyed fishing in his spare time.He is survived by a son, Gregory Allen (wife, Cheryl) Fuhrer of New Philadelphia, and four grandchildren; Gregory (wife, Eryn) Fuhrer II of Macedonia, Marisa (husband, Tom) Zink of North Royalton, Andrea (husband, Brandon) Bergum of Copley, and Douglas Fuhrer of North Royalton and seven great-grandchildren; Antonette and Zachary Fuhrer, Alexandra, Josephine and Vivian Zink, and Nicholas and Christopher Bergum.Completing the family are two brothers, J. Eugene (wife, Yolanda) Fuhrer of New Philadelphia and Richard (wife, Elnora) Fuhrer of Strasburg.Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Josephine and two brothers, Dean and Don Fuhrer.Friends are invited to call Tuesday evening from 5-8PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Lutheran Church Council Services will commence at 8PM. The Rev. Steven Patrick will lead Mr. Fuhrer’s funeral service Wednesday afternoon at 2PM in Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia, where the family will also receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in East Avenue Cemetery where the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors. Following the committal service, a luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall.
